Ther term 'Lengthsman' dates back to the 1800's, referring to workers who were responsible for keeping a particular length of the road neat and tidy.
The scheme, first trialled in 2010 with just 10 parish councils, funds a local 'Lengthsman' to carry out straightforward highways maintenance tasks requested by the local parish and now includes 136 parishes covering more than half of Hampshire.
South Warnborough's Lengthsman Scheme is within the Newnham 'cluster' with the current Associate Parish Agreement running from March to April each year. What work can the Lengthsman do? Read the the Agreement here
The Scheme, funded by Hampshire County Council, allows South Warnborough access to £1,000 (33.3 hours) for 2024-2025. Each job will be charged in hours until the hours run out.
